The oratorical contest is an international program sponsored by the Lafayette Noon Optimist club in which participants compete for scholarship prizes. All boys and girls under the age of 18 are eligible to enter. The National Committee picks the speech topic for the competition. District competitions occur early each year and winners proceed on to regional then national competitions.
