Speaker: Rory Greene, BSN, RN

Rory is a Clinical Liaison representing the new Lafayette Regional Rehabilitation Hospital (LRRH) to regional Doctors and full-service hospitals.

The LRRH is currently an intensive, state-of-the-art, in-patient physical rehab hospital with 40 one-patient rooms. It also includes a warm water therapy pool, a hotel-room-like transition suite (for evaluating patient and family readiness to be independent prior to possible release), a 6000 sq. ft. rehab gym with a kitchen and bathroom readiness facility, a day room, a cafeteria style dining room, and an outdoor therapy courtyard with a variety of real life walking surfaces to navigate. Essentially, the hospital is a unique, ‘full-service’ specialized facility based on extensive physical rehab experiences and a set of guiding principles influenced by Salvation Army operations. The concept was designed by four retired professionals in 2004 who envisioned a ‘better way’. The 5 year plan includes having at least 25 similar facilities across the country, where needed. Over time, out-patients will also be served by LRRH.

Treatment is tailored to meet the specific needs of each patient and their families. Day one begins with the goal of preparing the patient to return home as independent as possible. The professional staff includes specialized Doctors, Nurses, Case Managers, Occupational and Physical Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Respiratory Therapists, and Dietitians. LRRH is State of Indiana and Medicare accredited.

Each patient has a planned daily routine to follow that prepares them to return home. All meals are served in the cafeteria and all patients are encouraged to be up and about. The entire facility is ground level. All patient rooms have windows with ‘elbow’ ledges accessible to wheelchair patients (as tested by the Lafayette Spinners). The LRRH provides a social environment that encourages interaction among patients, family members, and staff. Patients make new friends while adjusting to a new way of life, nurtured by a professional, caring physical rehab environment.
